FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Orange Beach, AL – February 21, 2013 - The 2013 Orange Beach Festival of Art is proud to announce that Carlyn Ray is
returning to Coastal art Center for her second year as featured glassblower. Carlyn received her BFA from The college
of William and Mary, and studied in New Zealand where she began her glassblowing career. She has worked and taught at several schools including: The Studio in corning, New York, Pilchuck in Stanwood, Washington, Haystack in Deer Isle,
Maine and Penland in Penland, North Carolina. She has assisted several artists including American artist William Morris and his team members, Itialian Maestro Lino Tagliapietra and Czech Glass Master petr Novotny.
Carlyn states, “I choose the materials based on the design and feeling of the piece. I particularly like mixing metal and glass because it brings a juxtaposing relationship between fragility and stability. The design of the piece determines the material being used to portray for example weight: light or grounded, structure: sound or whimsical, and texture: transparent or opaque”.
Carlyn and her assistant, Jay Thrash, will be joining the Coastal Art Center’s resident glassblower, Adam Burges at The Hot Shop for demonstrations throughout the Festival.
The Orange Beach Festival of Art is produced by the Friends of the Arts, Inc. the non-profit that supports the programs
of the Coastal Art Center of Orange Beach.
