Performing Arts at the Orange Beach Festival of Art
A blend of fine arts will be the focus of the Orange Beach Festival of Art to be held March 13-14 at the Waterfront Park on Canal Road in Orange Beach.  In addition to the more than 70 visual arts exhibitors, the Festival will feature a Literary Authors’ Tent, a Children’s Art Alley, a wine tasting tent, a live musical stage, on site glass blowing at the Hot Shop and a performing arts stage.

Rio Barlow, who is directing the performing arts stage, has had a successful career in the U.S. and Europe as a professional ballerina.  She has served as Ballet Mistress for Ballet Pensacola and the Alabama School of Fine Arts.  “I am delighted to be working with the Orange Beach Festival of Art, “ said Rio, “and the talent which will be displayed on stage during these two days is excellent.”

 Those attending the Festival will enjoy performances by the Coastal Ballet Academy, the Gulf Coast Martial Arts, the Irish Dancers, Earl Ragland guitar, mandolin and banjo, the Sandspur Band of the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church, the Sahdia Belly Dancers, Bailey Kennon and Friends, Tai Chi, Martha Umphrey  50’s-80’s music and voice, Top Hat and Jackie and other performances.

Steve & Dee Burrow at the 2010 Orange Beach Festival
“Steve has his things, I have my things and we have things we make together” said Dee Burrow, referring to the pottery making studio she and her husband operate together.  Steve and Dee Burrows will be among the more the 70 exhibitors at this year’s Orange Beach Festival of Art which will be March 13-14 at the Waterfront Park in Orange Beach.

 Steve has been making pottery for over 30 years and Dee for over 20.  These award winning potters make functional to decorative sculpture embellished pieces.  They mix their own clay and glazes and fire their work in wood and electric kilns.  Their studio, Sea Oats Pottery, is located on Canal Road in Gulf Shores.

The Burrows excellent work has won them many awards at shows and festivals.  Their winter vacations to the Bahamas have now turned into a semi-working venue as they discover clays in that region which yield an entirely new and unique look in their pottery.

In addition to exhibitors such as the Burrows, the Orange Beach Festival of Art will feature a Literary Authors’ Tent with book signings, a performing arts stage with ballet, martial arts and acting,  a wine tasting tent, a Children’s Art Alley with 6 different art activities for children, and a musical stage.  The Festival hours are l0 a.m. until 5 p.m. on March 13 and 14.  Shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from the Festival site.  For more information, call the Orange Beach Art Center at 251-981-2787 or visit their website at www.obfoa.com.
